Not much time to blog today but just another quick plug, ESPNU tonight at 7p, UGA vs. Tenn in men's college basketball. Bruce Pearl did not make the trip, just in case you are looking for him tonight. Part of his 8 game SEC game suspension.
Kudos to the Lady Dogs, they are on quite a roll now at 4-0 SEC, cracked the rankings this week for the first time all year I believe. In at #24, men's team dropped out after losing to Vandy last week. They would come in at #27 based on those receiving votes. Bottom line, you can't lose a game when you are ranked in the 20's in the poll. If you are ranked 1 through probably 15, you can remain ranked even losing a game during the given week. If we win the next two at home, we more than likely jump back in the polls but honestly, WHO CARES about the polls in college hoops, they actually decide the champ on the floor, not based on polls. All you need to do is get in the dance and you have a shot, obviously some a lot more legit than others.
For grown men that visit high school kids facebook pages, PLEASE STOP. I don't even have a facebook account but my gosh, I have no interest in read up on Ray Drew's facebook account. Last year, all the drama about Da'rick Rogers switching uniforms on his facebook page etc. I follow recruiting closely each year and I read a lot about the process, and have some folks I discuss it with and share predictions on here as well but the more I read about the process, the more I am reminded we are talking about 17-18 year old kids here. As much money as college football coaches make, it has to be scary when your job depends on what 17-18 year old kids decide. At least at the NFL level, you evaluate them and you select them. In college, you can evaluate a kid, recruit the heck out of him, build strong relationships with the kid and his family, and in the end they go somewhere else. Guess that is why I never have liked sales but some guys really excel at it.
Hopefully Fox and company continue their stellar play tonight, always nice to beat the ugly orange regardless of the sport. I will miss not watching Pearl rant and rave on the sideline but hopefully the team will play well and get this homestand off to great start.
***********************UGLY LOSS to the UGLY orange, team did not come out with the same energy level as they have in the two conference wins. UT is a talented bunch and this was far from a gimme, still I think this game will be one that haunts us. You can't lose games like this at home, regardless of how horrible some critical calls were-and they were BAD, the kind you expect the HOME team to get the benefit of and not the road team. The UT bench provided more spark than I expected and they won a tough game. The good news, if there is any for us, the season is still young and UT has a strong RPI and SOS, which means the loss is bad but not as bad as a loss to say Auburn at home. Move on to Miss State now, can't get that one back but can't afford more slip ups at home. *****************************************
