Listening to him on the radio yesterday, it was great hearing him talk about UGA needing to keep the in state kids home. He admitted he was so glad now that he chose UGA over USC/Clem and how stupid a kid he was for ever even considering those other two schools. He said there is a lot of pride playing for your home state and these young guys need to realize how beneficial it is to stay and play at home. Sounds to me like we need to get HW to start working as a recruiting coordinator. You could hear the passion in his voice about this topic. This coupled with Buck's step one of turning around the program, letting Rodney Garner remain as DL coach only and having a full time recruiting coordinator-very interesting idea although I am not sure if that is possible. I guess you could do that if the recruiting coach is NOT coaching on the field, it is my understanding that you are only allowed 9 assistant coaches, we have Garner, Belin, Lakatos, Grantham, Bobo, Lilly, Searels, McClendon and Ball. So, Buck's plan evidently calls for us to have one guy strictly for recruiting purposes only. He did bring up some interesting examples of where Coach G has dropped the ball-in one case the debacle at Carver HS in Columbus, another where it took us too late in the game to start recruiting a JUCO DL-I assume he is talking about John Jenkins but maybe this was someone from last year. Basiscally Buck's argument is that Garner is missing on too many kids, especially kids in state, and kind of has an attitude issue on top of that. Not to mention his numerious flirtations with other schools it seems most every year, I can see where Buck is coming from. I agree with Buck on this, he sees no further changes with the coaching staff.
Today hopefully we will get a couple commitments, I have heard from several places that Bray is a strong AU lean, but Dickson will pick UGA-course yesterday it was reported he plans to flip a coin 5 times to make his decision-YIKES. Regardless, our coaches need something positive to happen so we can only hope we do indeed get some commitments tonight-or at least one. If we are to lose a player, I guess Bray would be one we could afford to lose IF we get Crowell. Just not sure how/why he would think he has more opportunity at AU, and I still personally believe they are going to be hit with some sort of penalties from the NCAA. Guess we will all find out soon enough.
