Ealey wants to be the man, baseball today vs. Mercer

So, if the quotes I have read this morning are true, I think Washaun Ealey leaving was in the best interest of WE most certainly and UGA more than likely as well. I don't want a kid that is wants to be given something without competing for it-but then again, entitlement is something our program has struggled with recently and our country struggles with today-everyone is not entitled to a house, car, insurance, nice clothes, etc etc-you work for what you get, or at least that is the way our country was set up originally. Here is the unofficial quote I have read this morning-

“I’m a person where I want to be a premier back,” Ealey told the website. “If I was to play here, I would have had to share the backfield with Caleb and Carlton also. Then they were going to try to give the freshman Isaiah his chance. He probably was going to get some carries at the beginning of the year too. I just felt like I didn’t want to be in that mix of things anymore.”
If you are confident in your abilities, you stay and fight. But then again, Ealey feeling this way combined with his off the field issues, I just think it is best for all parties to move on. Course you read this morning that Ga. Southern, "has not been and will not be in conversation with Washaun Ealey,” Rose Carter, Georgia Southern assistant athletic director for athletics media relations, said by email this afternoon. That is pretty harsh there. I have heard Valdosta State is a possible destination, maybe Albany State or Savannah State (do they play football), course also Ga. State but doubt Curry would touch him. The interesting thing is, per his Mom in the paper yesterday, she had no idea he had made this decision. You would think/hope a kid would be getting some advise/support from his family in making this big decision. But evidently that was not the case. I just hope this kid will get another chance and do well, on the surface it sure seems like he is someone that needs to get his head screwed on straight and then move forward.

Tonight is a big game for the baseball team, hosting Mercer at Foley Field, game starts at 5p. UGA beat Mercer down in Macon earlier this year 8-6. A win tonight puts us back at 3 games over 500, before we head to Lexington to take on Kentucky, a team that is 5-19 in conference. One scary number though in looking at UK's team, they are 18-9 at home this year, 2-14 away. Before we get to Lexington though, we MUST beat Mercer. These in state mid week games usually are a big concern, and I am still concerned but I believe this team understands the importance of every game from here on out and so I am hoping they play like a team on a mission today. Mercer is a good team, beating GT twice this year and they come in with 29-17 record. To read more about the game today, read the link below.
