The Diamond Dogs eliminated the Auburn Tigers, with Alex Wood throwing his first ever complete game, a 3-2 victory in which the Dogs trailed 2-0 until the bottom of the 6th when they scored all 3 runs. Next up is a game with SCarolina tonight (I believe game starts at 7:30), the Gamecocks lost in the winners backet to Vandy by the score of 7-2 yesterday. For more details about the game yesterday, check out this article from the Athens paper.

Tomorrow, the Lady Dogs softball team take on Baylor in a best of 3 super regional in Athens. Game will be on ESPNU or one of the ESPN networks at 7:30. Game 2 is Sunday at 3:30 while a game 3, if needed would be played at 6p on Sunday. Our softball team is looking to make it 3 straight trips to the women's College World Series. If memory serves, they played for the title last year or was it the year before. Needless to say, our program is one of the elite-which is where I think our baseball team should be as well.
Speaking of that, I will refrain from comment about David Perno until the team is officially eliminated this season. That being said, he WILL be back as AD Greg McGarity made that announcement yesterday at the board meeting-a meeting where they voted to increase ticket prices for the UGA-UF football game from $40 to $60. He said Perno would be back for the 2012 season. So, regardless of my opinion or anyone elses for that matter, the man that DOES get to make the call has already made it. I REALLY like David Perno-he bleeds red and black. BUT, I do expect more out of our baseball program.
Hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. To all those veterans who might read my blog, I say THANK YOU for serving our country. Thank you for protecting our borders and making America the great place it is. Our country is having tough times right now, and I do worry about the direction we are headed as a society but this country still remains the best country in the world. Thanks to all the folks that serve (or have served) in our armed forces, we are able to have a national holiday to enjoy time with our families or just simply relax and take a break from the day to day because of your service. Hope everyone enjoys the great long weekend and Go Dogs!!
