Depth chart released, Men's tennis out, Cowboys win title!

The depth chart for fall football was released yesterday and I guess there were not many surprises. You can first look at the SE position, where Marlon Brown is #1 but Michael Bennett is #2, ahead of Israel Troupe. Now, Bennett looked pretty good in the spring game but I am disappointed with Troupe-he came in as a 4 star WR out of Tifton and just really has never panned out. He had a nice TD catch against AU a couple years ago but other than that, just very little playing time when the game was on the line. Maybe he is just not as good as the others but I have always held out hope he would have a big season sooner than later. Now he enters his SR year 3rd on the depth chart.

On the OL, wow, you have to be a little concerned here with the backups. The starters are pretty much as we expected, Glenn, Gates, Jones, Burnette, and Anderson. But the backups, two walkons currently sit as backups, Hugh Williams at a tacklet spot and Ben Reynolds at C. It might be that a couple of our recruits coming in will start the season as #2 or just slightly behind the walk on guys. David Andrews for sure at center, perhaps DeBell or Dantzler at tackle? I think Ward is RS since he had surgery after the season. The backups are guys that have really never stepped on the field. We MUST avoid any further injuries to OL.

A few other minor surprises, Bruce Figgins being #1 at FB. I think Ogletree is a good player as well but Figgins certainly gives us a unique guy at that position-he can catch and he can block. The question, can we ever hand him the ball and let him pick up a yard up the middle. Also you have to look at Malcome being #4 at TB. Based on the spring game alone, I would have him #2 but we didn't get to see all the other spring practices and he did have some injuries in the spring. Hutson Mason being #2 at QB is not a surprise at all. I think it is pretty evident that Crowell will be #2 or #1 on the chart by the time the season rolls around.

On the D, course Kwame is #1 at the nose, many expect Jenkins to come in and take that spot, I say not so fast my friend. Abry Jones is one DE as is DeAngelo Tyson as expected. At LB, Jarvis Jones, Cornelius Washington, Christian Robinson and Alec Ogletree are the 1's. In the secondary, surprising to see Sanders Commings as the #1 corner while Branden Smith is #2 behind Brandon Boykin. I think the Brando(e)n's should be #1 corners, with Commings and Rambo as #1 safties myself. For now, Rambo and Shawn Williams hold down the #1 spots at safety. I think our young guys on D, being Ray Drew, Swann, Nick Williams, Corey Moore-those guys have a very legit shot to come in and get PT. Also probably a middle LB has a shot to come in as well.

Men's tennis lost to SoCal yesterday 4-0. Great season for the team but SoCal was just too tough for them-and they did win the national title last year and are always a great tennis program.

Final note, Cowboys won the title last night, 5-3. In pee wee baseball, that is the equal to a big league game finishing 1-0. Neither team could hit well but played outstanding defense. Proud of my son and his teammates. Glad to be done with youth sports for a few months, his first taste of football will start in July.
