Isiah Crowell just put on the black Georgia hat, pulled out an all-white bulldog puppy and instantly upgraded the UGA running game in the process. Yes, this kid has a lot of pressure on him there is no question. Yes, the last time UGA landed such a top notch RB from Carver-Columbus, that young man ended up not being quite as good as everyone thought-although he was not a bust, that being Jasper Sanks. But, that being said, this kid is an elite player at his position and happens to play a position where UGA has some players but no elite players in my opinion. I thought Caleb King would be elite coming out of HS after watching him play his JR year at Parkview, but things have just not panned out for him in Athens. As of now, we just have to hope he can play his final year in 2011. Ealey, again this kid does have talent and toughness but his fumble problems and discipline problems last year along with his lack of breakaway speed in my opinion, lead me to believe he is not an elite runner. Malcome, the jury is out on him obviously, this spring will be very important for him. Carlton Thomas, simply put is not an SEC level tailback. So, enter Crowell who has the size and elusive speed we have been lacking. Great job by our coaches to land him and now he needs to work hard from now until he reports to get stronger so he will be ready to contribute game 1 this fall.
Up next we wait on big John Jenkins. As much as our offense needed Crowell, our D needs Jenkins. Inserting him on the DL allows Tyson to move to his natural position. A DL of Tyson, Jenkins, and Jones, that is certainly an upgrade over this past year. It allows our LB's to make plays and I believe we have some play making linebackers on our roster and obviously some of our recruits will have the chance to come in and make an impact-namely Ray Drew. Speaking of Drew, as much as his "joking" during the process annoyed me to no end, this quote from Mark Richt has to make us all feel great, because this kid obviously does have a special quality about him when it comes to communicating with potential recruiting targets-
Speaking of Drew, who enthusiastically tried to sway other recruits to Georgia, Richt added: “I’d say also his greatest strength might be his character — and his ability to recruit. He asked me, ‘Coach, once I’m on campus, can I keep recruiting for the next year’s class?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He’s something special.”
Here is a look at our signing class courtesy of the AJC, looks really good to me, has not been updated to include Crowell.

Also of note, it appears the UGA hoops team has finally made it to Arkansas. As I pointed out yesterday, this game is pretty darn crtical for us to get back in the SECe race, with UK going down to Miss last night, Fla beating Vandy, it does appear UF has a little bit of distance/seperation from the pack but we just need to get back on the winning track and soon. We are falling off the bubble in many circles but the good news, still plenty of time to get back on the bubble and then off the bubble and clearly in the field. Game tonight is at 9pm eastern and it appears to be only on CSS which means if you don't have Comcast, you might not get to watch-I am not 100% certain of that though.
