Tomorrow is the big day!!!

So tomorrow is signing day in Athens. Besides the first opening kickoff every fall, signing day is perhaps the most exciting time in college football, certainly the case for UGA faithful. This year has been an interesting year for the Bulldogs. Some are saying currently the class is just average, thanks to being ranked in the lower teens to early 20's in some services, while ESPN ranks the class #5 nationally. I personally like the ESPN ranking, not because it is higher, but because it values the kids committed along with the needs of the team. Many of the other services, it is more about the total # of kids on your list as opposed to the quality of the kids and more importantly, where your needs were/are in restocking your roster. I think for UGA, it was pretty clear cut-OL and RB were two areas of need. Also we need to replace both kickers, and then we need to cotinue to increase our depth on the defense-as good as the defense was last year, depth in the second half often times kept us from being a great defense. So, let's take a look at the UGA list as it currently stands and then add those that are still considering UGA and will make their selections tomorrow. Thanks to rivals site, I copied and pasted information.

Ok, so first area of need, OL. Theus, Beard, and Pyke are it. Course we also lost Chester Brown due to immigration issues (he appears headed to UCF) but we are still in the running for one more-will talk about that later. SO, to me it is a bit disappointing to only have three signed, because ideally to me I think we should sign 5 every year. Considering our history of OL leaving the program for bad shoulders, bad knees or jsut simply not panning out, strength in numbers. That being said, lets remember who we still have on our roster as OL, and their class. We have 12 kids already on campus, none of which will be SR's next year, all but 3 have game experience. Add in Theus and Beard to the mix, we will have a solid two deep next year that we really have not enjoyed in years.

As for RB, we have Gurley and Marshall coming in, along with Crowell, Malcome and Samuel, Thomas to me has see his last PT except maybe special teams. Certainly we have improved our depth here, and Marshall is already on campus as well.

As for our depth on D, adding Taylor, Atkins and Jordan Jenkins, really helps our depth there. If you look at our DL after next year, we need guys ready to play because John Jenkins and Geathers are gone more than likely. JJ and Washingto are also gone more than likely, so having another elite level pass rusher is key. Adding Sheldon Dawson, many have compared him to Boykin is a nice get from Memphis.

As for our targets left-a quick note about each-I had a long post here and it did not save out. I HATE when that happens.

Josh Harvey-Clemons, VERY talented kid, have seen him play. Many think UGA is the team to beat, would love to land him but have to watch out for FSU and UF here, Lowndes County seems to always send their kids to FSU.

Avery Young-cousin of former UGA star Thomas Davis, Mom lives in Ga and wants him at UGA, Dad lives in Florida. Hopefully he sees our depth chart and follows the wishes of Mom.

Cordarrelle Patterson-supposedly down to UGA and UT, a JUCO all american and will likely be a one and done wherever he goes, he is that good at WR. UGA thought to be the leader, originally from SCarolina, so that helps our cause. If he is cleared academically, likely UGA.

Josh Dawson-committed to Vandy but says he is 50/50 Vandy/UGA. Is from Tucker HS which has normally been a UGA recruiting hotbed. Have to think he will continue that tradition.

Jacquay Williams-committed to AU but UGA coming after him hard, likely sticks with AU but he has several younger teammates that just got UGA offers he has made comments about playing with them in college.

Brandon Greene-committed to Bama and says he plans to stick with that but still speculation he could flip-UGA coaches have recruited him hard but I say he stays with Bama.

Also rumors of some other big name kids going with UGA tomorrow, but all of that rumor stuff is really hard to sort out. But, I will say if we end up with 21-22 kids tomorrow, I will be very happy and this class will be nice addition heading into what will be a monster year in 2013 after we have a great 2012 season.

One personal note, have heard a local player to me has committed to UGA-Devin Gillespie from Grayson HS. Now, I believe he was offered the chance to be a preferred walk on, the kid is only about 5-9 or 5-10 around 175-180lbs but what a great football player. If you like how Blake Sailors plays on our special teams, this kid will be much in the same mold-he is a very good addition so hope that is indeed his plan and it works out for him.
