The practice game is over, and UGA beat Boise 38-34, after starting the scrimmage trailing 31-0. I will put the stats below and give you my thoughts, but let's just say, I am ready to see how this team does in a real game-I am glad our coaches have scrimmages don't get me wrong, but you really can't read much into the stats because of the competition they are facing as well as the way they call the plays-ie, some guys get only a few attempts while another guy doubles that. Anyway, per the various normal sites that cover UGA sports from Athens-and not from midtown ATL, here are the stats from yesterday-I get my information typically from Seth Emerson's great blog-here is that link by the way.

Rushing
Ken Malcome 11 carries for 61 yards, long of 12. (some reports have him at 64 yards)
Isaiah Crowell 6 for 50, long of 15. (some reports give IC 54 yards)
Brandon Harton 5 for 26, long of 8.
Each had a touchdown
Ok, so Malcome finally got some PT and averaged 5 yards a carry. Not bad. If you take his long out, and say 10 carries for, still averages 4.9 yards a carry. As for Crowell, averaged 8 yards a carry, take away his long he averaged 7 yards a tote. Harton averaged 5 yards a carry, taking away his long averaged 4.5 per carry. So, all backs did pretty well, obviously Crowell the best and keep in mind, this was just half a game and against our scout team.
Passing
Murray 5-for-9, 79 yards.
Hutson Mason 7-for-9, 98 yards, 1 TD.
Tamburo 3-for-5, 23 yards, 1 INT
Christian LeMay, 1-for-3, 5 yards, 2 INT
(Tamburo and LeMay were playing for Boise State)
Overall passing, 12-18 for 177 yards and 1 TD. Mason actually played better, but we know what Murray can do. Tamburo and LeMay were playing against our #1 D, and from what I have read, they had no shot as the second team OL didn't provid them with any protection.
Receiving
Orson Charles 3-for-31 yards
Tavarres King 3-for-21
Aron White 2-for-46
Brandon Harton 1-for-49
Israel Troupe 1-for-14
Michael Bennett 1-for-6
First scrimmage where Charles, King and White show up in the stats. Mitchell and Brown didn't play. Not bad numbers, nice catch and run evidently by Brandon Harton. Where was Michael Bennett?? Just found one report that had him down for one catch for 6 yards.
Kicking
Blair Walsh made a 56-yarder.
Brandon Bogotay was 1-for-2, making a 42-yarder.
Assuming Bogotay was kicking for the Boise team which means they were in scoring position at least two times-but, per Richt he moved the ball into the redzone several times so the D could practice defending in the redzone. I take it that on their own, they were incapable of making it to the redzone.
Defense
Abry Jones 3 tackles, 2 sacks
Jarvis Jones 4 tackles (all solo), 1 sack
Brandon Boykin 2 tackles (both solo), 1 INT for 75 yards
Jordan Love, 3 tackles, (two solo), 1 sack, 1 FF
Sanders Commings, 1 INT
Shawn Williams, 1 INT, 1 PD
Where is Tree? I figure he must not have played much because he has been dominating every scrimmage-including Gday since he switched to LB. Good to see Boykin back and making great plays, of course Jarvis Jones is going to really help us as well.
Again, you can take very little from these type practice games, but the best news to me, NO INJURIES and Coach Richt has said, all the folks nursing injuries now should without question be ready for Boise State. He also named the first game captains, Ben Jones, Drew Butler, DeAngelo Tyson and Brandon Boykin-can't think of any more deserving players-all 4 great team leaders.
A few other notes, it looks like Branden Smith has taken over a corner spot, and thus pushed Sanders Commings to safety-he worked with the 1st team yesterday along with Shawn Williams, pushing Rambo to second string. Jordan Love is getting a lot of snaps at nickle corner, although I still think our best 5, should we use 5 defensive backs, Smith, Boykin, Commings, Williams and Rambo. As much controversy as there has been about Rambo this preseason, something must be going on there. I have heard it his attitude but that is just rumor. Bottom line, competition is always good and if we have Rambo coming in off the bench, that is ok by me as there is no doubt against Boise and SCarolina, we need to have depth on our defense.
