Wow, amazing how much stuff happens when you are gone for a week. First and foremost, thoughts and prayers are with Trinton Sturdivant and his family. What a HORRIBLE thing to happen to such a talented and bright young man-after tearing his left knee up, now he tears up his right ACL during the Saturday scrimmage. As your remember, he debated about leaving school early but decided to come back. Granted, his decision was probably due to the fact he was not very high on the NFL radar due to past knee injuries but for him to come back and now his college career is over-unless somehow he is granted a 6th year-and who is to say the kid has his heart in making yet another comeback attempt. Just a real shame but as I mentioned, he is a smart young man, he has a lot going for him off the field and I know he will be successful in life beyond football. I also know UGA and the UGA community will take care of him, help him recover from this latest injury and help him get on his feet.
Besides Sturdivant, I come back to read where we have 18 players out due to injury-will there be enough guys to suit up two teams come Saturday-amazing. Course I have read the practices are extremely physical-what we need-and probably some of the guys sitting out would play in a game-meaning the injuries are not severe but no sense taking any chances in the spring. Hopefully we are getting the injuries out of the system early and the regular season will be healthy for the most part. I am looking forward to the spring game to see what young guys step up. Sounds like Mason had a good scrimmage and judging by his pass attempts compared to LeMay, to me it appears the coaches are pretty confident in Mason being the backup and letting LeMay redshirt this fall. Course that all changes if Murray gets hurt and misses a large portion of the season. I want to see what WR's step up obviously and want to see some of our new guys play on the D. Sounds like Sanders Commings will be moving back to safety, I think that is where he belongs with his size to be honest and that opens the door for one or two of our FR corners to get some PT this fall-namely, Swann and Marshall. Of course either the DL/overall D is doing great or once again our OL is having a tough time getting some push-or we are just missing our best RB. King and Thomas did very little on Saturday, Ealey is still hurt and of course Crowell is still in HS. We MUST have a running game to take pressure off Murray and our WR's. Let's hope the OL and RB's can step up, overcome the horrible injury to Sturdy and become a consistent offensive unit.
Well, it seems the baseball team has caught fire. Before I left, they had taken 2 of 3 from LSU, after dropping 2 of three to SCarolina. They have now won 5 of the last 6 over the two Miss schools, including a sweep of Miss State in Athens and this past weekend, taking two of three against the Rebels on Oxford. Up next, a game against the Nerds in the ATL coming up tomorrow night, followed by a big home series against the Gators. I believe we are tied or one game back of the Gators right now so you can see this is a big series. Still, the 8-4 conference mark to this point is a great sign and the pitching seems to really be getting better. Maybe that tough schedule I have mentioned really is paying off. You remember, the trip out to Cali earlier in the year, we won 3 games and faced a couple of VERY good pitchers in the process. We also played FSU and Baylor 3 game series and they have solid baseball teams. So, let's hope the team can continue to play well and get back to the post season after a simply embarrassing 2010 season.
All for now, I am swamped back at work and need to get going. I will try to post more this week. Hope you all are enjoying the nice weather.
