Another mid week loss for the Diamond Dogs, spring practice notes

Another game, another blown lead via the Bulldog bullpen. I think we have discovered a couple of really good starters for the weekend SEC series, Alex Wood, Michael Palazzone, even Craig Gullickson is starting to pitch better as well. Midweek starter Chase Hawkins is also pitching pretty good-the bullpen is struggling. So is the defense but honestly, last night we had a pitcher walk 4 straight hitters, that sounds like little league baseball to me-even if your defense is shaky, you have to give them a chance to make a play. Last night Clemson took what was a 4-2 UGA lead going into the bottom of the 6th, and turned it into a 7 run inning and pulled ahead 9-4. Final score was 11-5. You can read more about the game in this article from the Athens paper. Next up is a weekend series with the Imposter Dogs as I call them, Miss State. They are 18-6 and 4-2 in SEC play. We need to win that series, plan and simple.

Spring practice continued yesterday and the main news was that Washaun Ealey sat out of practice due to a slight hamstring injury, called "nothing serious" by RB coach Bryan McClendon. The assistant coaches were made available to the media yesterday after practice, I will put some articles below to read about how spring is going so far NOTE-I typically will use articles from the Athens paper because I think they do a much better job covering UGA sports than the pathetic paper in the ATL, just my opinion. Sometimes I will link articles from the AJC if I think they are worthy. Remember, G-Day is scheduled for April 16th at 1pm and
will be on CSS.

Here is a good article about Arthur Lynch, kind of the forgotten TE on the team. You have Orson Charles, one of the best in the nation in my opinion, you have Aaron White, a senior that has played a lot of football for us the last few seasons, Bruce Figgins is getting a lot of pub because of his move to FB, and then of course our top ranked recruit coming in, Jay Rome. Lynch spent last year as a redshirt and is now up to 270lbs at 6'5"-WOW. I think he can contribute this year but his year to shine likely is next year.

One final note, the team that destroyed the Lady Dogs a couple days ago, Texas A&M beat #1 seed Baylor last night to advance to the final four. They never trailed in the game and Baylor had beat them 3 times during the regular season. So, at least the team that embarrassed us beat the #1 seed in our bracket and now will face Stanford with the chance to likely meet UConn for the national title. I know many don't care about women's basketball or womens sports but hey, UGA womens sports have been more successful recently than our mens teams. Our softball team last weekend beat the #2 ranked Gators-swept the series matter of fact, gym Dogs will be competing soon for another national title, hoops team made the sweet 16 and the tennis team is always in contention for a national title. Bottom line, our womens programs are at the level we all hope the mens programs will get to with McGarity in charge. We might not win the title each and every year but we are at least in contention for it, compete for SEC titles year in and year out.
